Editor's review
This is a tool that will undelete data from a variety of media starting from the HDD.
Undela is a free data recovery software that allows you to quickly recover deleted files from damaged or formatted media. These include the disks, USB drive, digital camera card, camera or MP3 player. The content may be documents, email, video, photos and music and it does not matter at all in the recovery process. If these media have been accidentally formatted, that is no problem either. This tool will help recover the underlying data. File systems this tool is able to handle NTFS, NTFS5, FAT12, FAT16, FAT32(Windows), XFS(Linux) partitions. Windows platforms supported include Windows 2000/XP/2003/2008/Vista/Windows 7. It works well with Linux too. Several localized versions make it easy for a wider audience. Localized versions currently available are English, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Portuguese, French, Spanish, Italian, German, and Russian.
It is able to recover file from the recycle bin and even when the bin has been emptied. The tool uses a read only way of getting the data back and thus will not change the underlying data so that if you need to use other more sophisticated tool later that is possible. Compressed files are no problem. Virus damage also is recoverable with this tool. Files could be searched by the names they had prior to deletion. You could also scan all files and directories on a selected drive. The interface has a complete display of the directory structure at two level. At one level it shows you the drives available in the system and then the detailed Windows explorer like display of the files/folders. The tool can be installed on a USB drive and taken to other places. This is a good and handy tool.
